FAQ about IV Therapy
Q. DOES IV THERAPY HURT?
IV therapy is very gentle and most say they do not experience pain. There is a slight “pinch” or “poke” with insertion of the catheter into the vein and after that you should not feel much at all. Your ND may apply heat to ensure your comfort throughout the treatment
Q. ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS FROM IV THERAPY?
IV therapy is generally very well tolerated. Dehydration is the most common side effect with high dose vitamin bags. We recommend hydrating before, during, and after your visit with us.
Q. WHAT CAN I EXPECT ON MY FIRST VISIT?
Prior to your first IV treatment you will have met with an ND for a full assessment so that your IV bag can be prepared for your arrival. You will be welcomed into a comfy lounge chair at the LivWell IV clinic, your ND will ask a few quick questions to see how you’re doing that day, take your blood pressure, and get your IV bag hooked up to a location in your arm. You will then have a chance to relax for the next 30-60 minutes for your treatment. Please feel free to bring a book, tablet, or your phone for entertainment (we just as you use headphones should you choose to watch or listen to anything) Your ND will check in on you periodically throughout the treatment to ensure you’re comfortable and offer snacks, tea, and water. Please wear a short sleeved shirt or something that can be easily rolled up without pinching into the skin.
Q. IS IV THERAPY COVERED UNDER MY BENEFITS?
The naturopathic visit fee is covered by most insurance plans. The cost of the IV bag is generally not covered by insurance- although some plans or health spending accounts will cover this portion. We recommend reaching out to your insurance plan provider directly for details.
Q. HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE?
IV treatments typically take 30-60 minutes from start to finish . Occasionally a treatment may take up to 90 minutes if there is a large volume to be infused.
Q. HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?
Most patients need 4-6 weekly sessions to derive all the benefits of IV therapy. In certain circumstances alternative regimes (biweekly, monthly etc) may be recommended by your ND.
